An Andriod app which incorporates integrated reality with GPS systems has expanded its services to include North America.
Wikitude Drive has expanded their GPS app to American, Canadian and Mexican audiences. The app, which had been launched earlier this year, has been only available to users in Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Great Britain earlier this year. The expansion means that the service is now available in ten different countries.
The app acts like a regular GPS system except if you select a route, you can use the camera view to follow a projected line which updates in real time, similar in style to following a route using Google street view.
If this system doesn’t suit, then you can switch back to a standard GPS system to use for situations such as driving in the night-time or navigating complicated junctures that make a 2D map view more suitable. You can also mark important points on the system like hotels or petrol stations for future reference and the maps are constantly updated meaning the routes on the system are always up to date.
The service is only available on a limited number of Android phones which includes the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Google Nexus S, The HTC Nexus One and Desire and the Sony Ericsson X8 and X10i. The app is available to purchase for the cost of $9.99 (or €9.99) in the Android market.
Wikitude Drive have yet to announce if they are planning to extend the service to further countries.
