Google have always been known for their innovative and creative streak and ever since Larry Page returned to Google as its CEO, the company has wasted little time in introducing new products to stay ahead of the pack. Although Google Labs will be closing down later this year, they are still introducing new services and ideas, here’s some examples of what Google have and will be introducing.
Google+
The most obvious and high profile introduction over the last three months has been Google answer to social media sites. Google+ has only being available to the public for a month now so it’s still unclear as to whether it’d be a success or not but if anything, the first month has been encouraging with over ten million users signed up to it.
AdWords Express
Updating their original service adWords, Google released a newer version designed for smaller businesses looking for local customers. Enter your business details, create your ad and google will advertise to people who are looking for what your business can offer.
Google News Badges
Following the trend of gamification, you can now get online badges for reading Google News. The more you read the more badges you earn but whether you want to be praised for reading numerous sport or current affairs articles is unclear.
What do you love?
If you have a particular interest but want to search over a wide range of mediums, all you need to do is type into the special search bar and you’ll get results of everything you need to know about your selected topic such as images, maps, videos and books.
Google Map maker
Because Google Maps covers such a wide range, it doesn’t include specific details such as building locations and facilities in most areas. Google map maker allows users to add in their own custom features such as shops, businesses, parks and buildings to better flesh out the map for others to find their way around.
Voice search and search by image
Voice searching has already been available for Android users but Google are now rolling out the service for all computers. They’re also introducing image searching which is using photos and images to search instead of typing the term in.
Google Maps live transit updates
Designed to show you when public transport is going to arrive allowing you to plan ahead. Google have recently introduced a similar service for the inhabitants of London where you can get public transport directions for both the bus services and underground. Only recently, a developer has taken it towards its inevitable conclusion by using Google maps to create a site that tracks each London underground train moving in real time.
Google Advisor
So far it’s only available to US users but advisor allows you to compare offers from numerous providers in order to make a better decision for such as mortgages, credit cards and savings.
Google Wallet
Due to be released later this year, the service allows you to pay for goods and services with just your phone, acting as your digital credit card. It will also store loyalty cards and gift cards when it is released.
And as a bonus, one service that Google had advertised but didn’t release was Gmail Motion, Google’s April Fool’s joke for this year. Considering the movements required to send an email, perhaps it was for the best.
