Many publishers and individuals use Twitter as a way of getting more clicks on their links and ultimately driving more traffic. I don’t treat posting to Twitter as a very scientific exercise myself preferring to just go with gut on what type of links will work best. However, as you can see below, there are clearly some things that work better than others.
Some of the interesting findings are that people are more likely to click on links at the weekends (less tweets), and that using nouns instead of verbs works best. I do think that the beauty of Twitter is the sporadic and personal nature of the service, but I suppose if you were a large brand or publication with millions of followers then there could be some merit in putting a little more thought into what you tweet.
